West River pens are made from a wide variety of materials, each with
certain characteristics that will affect the way they age. Regardless,
with a bit of care your West River can last a lifetime. Below you will
find care tips and techniques for maintaining your writing instrument.
Refills
- Nearly all the West River pens will accept standard refills that
you can pick up from most any office store. All of our pens' refills are easy
to change, though some pens may seem difficult to disassemble. If you are
unsure how to change your ink, just
ask and we'll be happy to walk you through the process.
All Finishes/Materials
- Extreme heat, especially sunlight will destroy your pen. Avoid leaving
it in the car, running it through the dryer, or anything else that exposes
it to abnormally high temperatures.
- All pens have a finish which resists humidity, oils, and water, but
you should never submerge your pen in anything for any reason.
- Do not use household cleaning agents or inappropriate waxes to attempt
to clean your pen. Refer to the specific section below for more information
on the proper cleaning technique for your pen.
Wood
- Treat wooden pens the same way you would treat any precious
wooden furniture or other wooden antique. A high-quality paste wax
specifically for wood may be used to clean, buff, and protect your pen.
Acrylics/Resins
- These materials are synthetic, and as such are more resilient than most
materials. However, they are susceptible to cracking/chipping if dropped onto
hard surfaces and may be scratched more easily.
- Clean using plastic polish and use a high-quality rubbing compound
to remove scratches.
